Kıyıda Köşede -BARDİZAG (Պարտիզակ)
 

 

Çoğu kişi, eğer Kocaelili değilse Bahçecik'in adını pek duymamıştır. Duyduysa da çok fazla ilgisini çekmemiştir. İlginçtir ki Bahçecik Kocaelililerin, hatta Bahçeciklilerin bile ilgisini çekmez. Bu ilgiden kasıt tarihi anlamında. Ama Bahçecik'in tarihi, Kocaeli tarihinin çok önemli bir kısmını oluşturmaktadır.

Bahçecik yada Ermenice asıl adı olan Bardizag'ın anlamı "küçük bahçe"dir. 20.yy'ın başlarına kadar burada yaşayacak olan Ermeniler Sivas'taki Bardizag köyünden buraya yerleşmişlerdir. Buraya yerleşme nedenlerinden en önemlisi Celali Ayaklanmaları'dır. Burada Ermeniler tarafından kurulan Bardizag, IV.Murat tarafından 1625 yılında bir fermanla tanınmıştır. İlerleyen zamanlarda Bardizag İstanbullu Ermenilerin en gözde yazlık mekanlarından birisi haline geldi. Bahçecik'te 1830'da taştan inşa edilen bir Ermeni apostolik kilisesi bulunmaktaydı. Kilise, Nusaybinli Yakup'un ismini taşımaktaydı. 31 Mart 1831'de açılan kilise, 1922'den sonra yıktırılmıştır. Bahçecik yakınlarındaki bir tepenin üstünde de Aziz Minas adına bir de şapel bulunmaktaydı.
Bardizag tarihinde en dikkat çekici nokta ise Amerikalı misyonerler tarafından kurulan "Bitinya Lisesi"dir. Bu lisenin kız bölümü İstanbul'a taşınmıştır ve bugün "Üsküdar Amerikan Kız Lisesi" olarak eğitimine devam etmektedir. Bunun dışında Mehitaryan Okulu (Venedik Katolik okulu) ile bir veya iki anaokulu da bulunmaktaydı. 1860 yılında Bahçecik'te 670 kız ve erkek öğrenci öğrenim görmekteydi. Bitinya Lisesi'nin başında Kanadalı bir misyoner olan papaz Robert Chambers ile karısı Elizabeth Lawson vardı. İkisi de Ermeniceyi çok iyi biliyorlardı. Bitinya Lisesi'nin mezunlarının çoğu Robert Koleji'nde yüksek öğrenim görerek din adamlığı, gazetecilik, yatırımcılık ve doktorluk gibi mesleklere yöneliyordu. Birinci Dünya Savaşı öncesinde okulun mezunlar derneğinin katkılarıyla yapılan bazı binalar hala ayaktadır.
Birinci Dünya Savaşı öncesinde Ağustos 1914'te Bahçecik'ten 18-45 yaş arası 1,000 ile 1,500 arası Ermeni erkek Osmanlı Ordusu tarafından askere alınmıştır. Osmanlı hükümetinin aldığı tehcir kararı Temmuz 1915 sonlarında Bahçecik'e ulaşmıştır. Beş gün içinde Bahçeciklilerin çoğu mallarının tümünü Müslüman halka satmıştır. 4 Ağustos 1915'te Bahçecik'ten ilk grup İzmit istasyonundan trenle Anadolu'ya gönderilmiştir. Bir hafta içinde kasabanın neredeyse tamamı, toplam 9,000 kişi Bahçecik'ten tehcir edilmiştir. Bardizag'ın adı Cumhuriyet döneminde, Sivas'taki Bardizag köyü ile birlikte Bahçecik olarak değiştirilmiştir. Tarihteki birçok önemli Ermeni Bahçeciklidir. Bunlardan biriside İzmit Saat Kulesi'nin ve Büyükada Vapur İskelesi'nin mimarı "Mihran Azaryan"dır. Mihran Azaryan, Ermeni asıllı olmasına rağmen, bazı kaynaklarda Türk milli mimari akımının öncü isimleri arasında sayılır.
 
Kim bilir; belki günün birinde tehcir edilen Bardizaglıların çocukları ve torunları tekrar buralarda yaşar, tarihi tekrar canlandırır ve kültürlerini yaşatmaya devam ederler...
